Driver’s License and Car Tags

An Alabama driver’s license and car tags must be acquired within 30 days of entry into the state. To obtain Alabama state tags, bring a copy of your car title to:

 Jefferson County Court House            205.325.5171

If you already have a valid driver’s license, you will need to take a written exam in order to obtain your Alabama driver’s license.  The fee for the exam is $5.  The fee for a four year license is $20.25.  Exams are given at:  908 Bankhead Highway West (U.S. 78), 252-7445 and Southern Satellite Courthouse, 813 Green Springs Highway in Homewood, 916-2720.

 

Voter Registration 

The Board of Registrars' office is located in the Jefferson County Court House, 716 North 21st Street.  Voters must be 18, a US citizen, a resident of Alabama for at least 30 days, and have never been convicted of a felony.  For more information, call 325-5550.  Shelby county residents call 669-3913.
